01 Which vehicles can Justin currently tune? +

Current coverage includes selected Mazda2 / Demio / Toyota iA, MX-5 Miata / Roadster, Mazda3 / Axela, CX-30, Biante, CX-4, CX-8, Mazda6 / Atenza, CX-3, CX-5 and CX-9 applications. The checker also identifies selected MZR-era Mazda2, MX-5, Mazda3, Mazda6, Mazda5 / Premacy, CX-7, MPV / Mazda8, Verisa and Tribute powertrains.

Coverage varies by year, engine, market and ECU strategy. MZR entries require direct verification and are not automatic support claims. Check the complete supported models list before purchasing software or hardware.

02 Which vehicles are not currently supported? +

Skyactiv-X and Mazda3 Skyactiv-Hybrid vehicles, 2024 and newer Turbo Mazda3 and CX-30 applications, the 2026 new-generation CX-5 M Hybrid, and the CX-50, CX-60, CX-70, CX-80 and CX-90 are not currently supported. Compatibility can change as MazdaEdit adds ECU definitions, so confirm before ordering.

03 Which software and cable do I need? +

Justin tunes with MazdaEdit, not VersaTuner. A genuine Tactrix OpenPort 2.0 or OBDX Pro VX cable is required. Other interfaces are not supported for this workflow. Start with the MazdaEdit overview, then follow the visual tutorials for reading and flashing or data logging.

04 Where can I download MazdaEdit? +

Download the installer and current documentation from the official epifanSoftware MazdaEdit downloads page. Use the version specified for your license and follow the MazdaEdit page on this site for a safe setup sequence.

05 How do I check a 2023 to 2025 Mazda3 or CX-30 2.0L? +

Naturally aspirated 2.0L vehicles without EGR can currently be tuned when the ECU identifier begins with PA, PG or PS. An ECU beginning with PV is not currently supported for the 2.0L. Check the full identifier before buying MazdaEdit or scheduling a tune.

06 What changes can be included in a base tune? +

Depending on the vehicle and build, the calibration may revise fuel pressure, ignition timing, engine speed limits, intake and exhaust valve timing, torque limiters and air-fuel targets. A speed limiter strategy may also be revised where the ECU supports it and use is lawful.

Every file is matched to the ECU, engine, fuel, transmission and installed hardware. Read the Tune page for the process, requirements and expected outcomes. Specific power, economy, redline or top speed results are not guaranteed.

07 What should I do before requesting a tune? +

Start with a mechanically healthy car. Resolve warning lights, leaks, misfires and fuel-pressure issues, then check fluids, filters, spark plugs, tires and brakes. Use the requested fuel, connect a battery stabilizer, keep a reliable Windows laptop available and save the original ECU file before flashing.

08 Which engine oil viscosity is recommended? +
  • Naturally aspirated: 0W-20 or 0W-30.
  • Supercharged: 0W-30 or 5W-30.
  • Aftermarket turbocharged: 5W-30 or 5W-40.

Use oil that also meets the required Mazda specification and adjust the final choice for climate, fuel dilution, track use and engine condition.

09 What are the VT and HKS supercharger service intervals? +

The supplied VT guidance calls for engine oil and filter service every 5,000 km, HKS supercharger oil every two years or 60,000 km, and VT gear oil at 100,000 km in standard use. With a smaller pulley, Justin recommends servicing the gear oil at roughly 75,000 km or sooner. A conservative interval used by many owners is 50,000 miles or less.

Use the current manufacturer manual as the primary reference and inspect the belt, spark plugs, coolant and intake filter regularly.

10 Which supporting parts are recommended for forced induction? +

For a third-generation CorkSport turbo or VT-supercharged build, the current list includes NGK DILKAR8A8 spark plugs, CX-50 thermostat PX8E-15-171, CX-9 fuel-pump module PYFL-18561 and fuel pump PYFL-13350.

For a fourth-generation VT-supercharged build, it includes NGK DILKAR8A8 spark plugs, Corolla low-pressure fuel pump 23221-31130 or 291200-1001, and CX-90 fuel-pump control module PXFV-18-561. Confirm the exact fitment in the Parts directory before ordering.

11 Can my Mazda use the naturally aspirated CX-50 thermostat? +

The alternate CX-50 thermostat applies only to the compatible year, engine and layout combinations listed in the Parts directory. 2012 to 2017 Skyactiv-G models and the 2018 Mazda3 use the traditional thermostat. The CX-50 part is also not interchangeable with the later cartridge design used by some 2018 and newer naturally aspirated Mazda2, Mazda3, Mazda6, CX-3 and CX-5 applications. All 2.5T applications can use the CX-50 thermostat according to the supplied guidance.

Always select the year or generation in the Parts directory, then verify the VIN and physical thermostat layout before purchase.

12 Can I flash a map made for another car? +

No. The calibration must match the exact ECU strategy, engine, fuel, transmission, installed hardware and market. Flashing an unmatched file can make the vehicle run incorrectly or prevent the ECU from communicating.

13 Are performance results and road legality guaranteed? +

No. Results depend on the vehicle, fuel, hardware, environment and mechanical condition. Check local emissions, noise, inspection and insurance rules before modifying the car. Any high-speed testing belongs on a legal closed course with suitable tires, brakes and safety preparation.

14 Can I use a throttle booster with Justin's tune? +

No. Remove every external throttle booster before using Justin's calibration, regardless of brand. It changes the pedal signal outside the tuned strategy, can create electrical faults and may worsen fuel economy. The ECU calibration should control the requested throttle response directly.

15 How does the CS turbo differ from the VT supercharger? +

A turbo can be brake boosted and can produce strong boost and torque at low engine speed. That early torque can load the stock connecting rods heavily. VT supercharger boost is tied more closely to engine speed, so full boost is delivered later in the rev range. Peak boost pressure alone therefore does not describe mechanical stress.

16 What power can the stock rods and pistons support? +

Justin's supplied observations place third-generation rods near 280 whp and pistons near 300 whp. Fourth-generation rods and pistons are treated more conservatively at about 270 whp. He also compares a CS turbo example at 6 psi and roughly 280 whp with a VT supercharger example at 11 psi and roughly 260 whp.

These are observed warning points, not guaranteed safe limits. Torque delivery, boost onset, engine condition, fuel and hardware all affect risk, and a normal-looking log cannot guarantee that a stock rod will survive.

17 Are lightweight pulleys or an 80 mm exhaust recommended? +

Justin generally recommends retaining the stock crank pulley. His observed lightweight pulley sets can make engine speed fall more quickly between shifts and have been associated with thrown belts at high rpm. Use an engineered damper only after confirming the exact application.

He reserves an 80 mm exhaust for turbocharged builds that need the additional flow. An oversized exhaust on a naturally aspirated or supercharged Skyactiv-G can reduce usable power when the diameter is not matched to the valve timing and complete setup. 18 What is included in the tune package? +

The package includes one base map matched to the confirmed ECU, fuel and hardware, plus two revisions based on the logs requested by Justin. Keep the fuel and hardware configuration consistent throughout the process. A major hardware or forced-induction change can require a new base map and must be discussed first.

19 How is tuning pricing confirmed? +

Pricing is confirmed after Justin has reviewed the exact vehicle, ECU compatibility, fuel, installed hardware and requested goals. This avoids quoting a package that does not match the car or a setup that requires additional verification. Do not purchase MazdaEdit hardware or make payment until compatibility and the next steps have been confirmed directly.
